BAAM

Waldemar Wegelin

I make bold, colourful paintings about presence.

My work moves between abstraction and figuration, chaos and intention, control and surrender. I paint with acrylics, oil sticks, spray paint and markers, building layers until the canvas begins to feel alive.

I rarely start with a finished image. Painting is a ritual that brings me into the here and now. I follow colour, movement and instinct, then step in with structure when the work asks for it.

Flowers of Now is about slowing down enough to notice life while it is happening. The flowers are not decoration. They are reminders to pause, to look closely and to return to the present before it disappears.

For me, painting is a way of being fully awake & alive.

Biography

I was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 1982 and now live and work between Hamburg and Mallorca. After a decade in the creative industries, living in London, Stockholm, Tokyo and Los Angeles, I returned to Hamburg and became an entrepreneur.

Eight years later, I had to admit that I was not made for an office. I left the business world behind, took the leap into life as an artist and began painting seriously in 2024.

Since then, my work has been shown at Galerie Ladøns, Fabrik der Künste and Little Sister Gallery in Hamburg. My 2026 solo exhibition, Flowers of Now, welcomed more than 250 visitors and marked an important step in the development of my artistic practice.
