Katrin Suchowski

Katrin Suchowski’s (aka Sarkasik) artistic practice is rooted in abstraction, using dynamic compositions to capture the raw fluidity of human emotion. While her earlier work relied on intuitive, rapid movement across multiple acrylic canvases, her current series marks a shift toward a slower, more meditative practice using oil colors.
This current body of work explores a deeply personal yet universal phenomenon: the rapid vanishing of childhood spaces and the profound nostalgia and grief that follow. For displaced and migrant individuals, living abroad and losing family members render sentimental landscapes sometimes entirely inaccessible. To process this loss, she investigates how grief can transcend into everyday rituals of comfort, such as shared memories, comfort food, and ancestral traditions. Through the rich, deliberate layers of oil paint, she translates the heavy shadows of mourning into the warm, tactile glow of nostalgia, creating a sanctuary where lost connections are preserved and honored.
