BAAM

Diego Escarcega

My practice explores the connection between conceptual art, architecture, and the urban environment. Through an eclectic process combining digital/analog collage, analog and digital photography, scanning, and freehand drawing, I develop, multi-layered mixed-media works. I use acrylic and oil on canvas or wood with structural acrylic elements, to silkscreen and fine art prints on cotton paper, each uniquely hand-intervened with spray paint, ink, markers, an/or acrylics. I view artwork not merely as a visual object, but as a performative surface that captures context, urban memory, and spatial dialogue. A lot of mz energy centers on transforming fragments into complex visual textures, inviting viewers to reflect on their environment while navigating the tension between technique and intuitive expression.

Biography

With a background in civil engineering, creativity and urban exploration have always been my main drivers. I thrive at the intersection of architecture, design, and visual arts, focusing my practice on painting, photography, and independent cultural management. Driven by continuous curiosity, I constantly experiment with mediums to engage with spatial context. Beyond aesthetics, I see art as a catalyst for dialogue, empathy, and connection. I am deeply passionate about “city-making”(hacer ciudad en espanol) and using cultural initiatives and independent spaces to bring people together.
