BAAM

Annabelle Thorausch

My artistic practice spans drawing, painting, mural, video, and object-based work, with drawing at its core. I primarily work with ink and dip pen on paper, alongside acrylic and spray paint, and, in some works, my own menstrual blood as material. My practice is intuitive and process-led: rather than following a predetermined concept, I allow each work to develop through the act of making, responding to what the work itself requires.

Repetition, reduction, rhythm, and the relationship between density and openness are recurring elements in my work. Some pieces evolve through delicate line structures that create visual frequencies, while others are defined by larger painted forms and areas of color. This openness allows my visual language to expand naturally, with each series finding its own form.

Inspired by attentive observation, nature, and inner experience, I use abstraction to explore perception rather than representation. My work also engages with physical and psychological pain and processes of healing—themes I return to as part of a broader exploration of transformation. My works unfold over time—sometimes within a single session, sometimes over weeks or months—until their composition reaches its own balance. I see each work as part of an ongoing artistic process that remains open to change, curiosity, and new ways of seeing.

Biography

Annabelle Thorausch (b. 1989, Northern Germany) is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist working across abstract painting, mural, drawing, object art, and video. Her practice is rooted in intuition, material exploration, and process, using abstraction to explore inner emotional landscapes and states of perception, and creating works that invite reflection and connection.

She graduated with a BA in Design from GSO University in Nuremberg in 2017, going on to win the Anfachen Award two years later. This year, she was selected for the ArtUpNow project in Berlin. Over the past nine months, she has been developing *Conversations with the Spirits*, an ongoing series that now comprises 59 small-format paintings, exploring an dialogue between emotion, intuition, and the unseen.

Her work has been shown in exhibitions in Germany and internationally. *Conversations with the Spirits* recently formed the core of her second solo exhibition of the same title at Mamoney in Berlin (June–September 2026). In 2025, she presented her first solo exhibition, *Between Line and Space*, at Theater Schalotte in Berlin. Recent group exhibitions include MESZ at LA18 (March 2026), Between Places at the Hoxton Hotel Berlin (April–July 2026), Im Blickfeld: Selbst. Bild. Gesellschaft. at Kulturzentrum Rathenow (May–June 2026), and Artverse Underground, a large-scale exhibition spanning four floors of a parking garage at Kurfürstendamm in Berlin (July–September 2025).
