The Seventh Day of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – since 2023
Since the early 1990s, my work has explored skulls, body fragments, and human anatomy through etching, collage, screen printing, and drawing. The arrival of AI-driven image generation has fundamentally transformed my artistic process. Under the title The Seventh Day of Artificial Intelligence, I create works combining prompts, slogans, and Fraktur typography as visual placeholders that expose how AI constructs meaning.
Unlike human artistic practice, rooted in cultural memory, symbolism, and conscious decision-making, AI recombines vast image datasets statistically. It produces visually convincing results without understanding, reflection, or historical awareness, reinforcing stereotypes and aesthetic conventions embedded in its training data.
AI favors familiar visual genres and polished surfaces, creating the illusion of creativity while optimizing for recognition and repetition. Drawing, by contrast, remains my primary tool for thinking—a reflective process where time, materiality, and artistic responsibility become visible.
My work questions who controls the visual codes of AI, which images are censored, and how algorithmic systems shape our imagination. AI does not replace artistic creation; it consumes and reassembles it. Art begins where ambiguity, contradiction, and resistance emerge. AI excels at smooth surfaces, but meaningful images must remain open, complex, and capable of challenging perception.
