I am Susanne Lingeveldt, working and living between Bremen and Cape Town. My practice is rooted in intuitive abstraction, drawn from nature. I work primarily on raw canvas, aiming for a natural, unpolished feel, letting the material itself stay visible in the finished piece.
I’m interested in small, overlooked details in nature, things that feel authentic simply because they weren’t designed. These observations become the starting point for layered compositions. My color choices tend toward earthy tones paired with unexpected combinations. I’m also drawn to shine and texture; glitter, gemstones, light reflections, and cosmic imagery recur throughout my work.
Painting gives me a counterpoint to overstimulation: a space to slow down and think clearly. Living in a city shaped by mass production and replaceable goods, I feel a real pull toward making things that are specific and unrepeatable. Abstraction lets me keep testing new themes and moods rather than settling into one, and that ongoing exploration is part of what keeps the work honest.
