BAAM

Stephanie Dudd

At the core of my artistic practice is the search for sensitive pictorial spaces. I am interested in how a subtle tension between openness and material density, fragility and presence emerges through the careful balancing of colour, form and material. Depending on the work, themes of atmosphere, encounter or dialogue come to the foreground.

My process begins with an aesthetic search for traces and evolves through direct engagement with the material. Fluid acrylic paint seeps into raw canvas and merges with the fabric, while on primed surfaces it settles in diluted layers. The pictorial spaces develop through a continuous process of applying, altering and revealing the paint, unfolding into atmospheric colour fields or organic forms that remain alive through subtle shifts. Areas of raw canvas often remain visible and become an active element of the work.

Some works are extended through textile interventions. With hand embroidery, I enter into a dialogue with the painting, continuing it on another material level. By joining separately created canvas fragments, I bring previously independent pictorial spaces into relation with one another.

My works invite a gentle mode of perception and open up spaces for connection.
