BAAM

Acrylic paint dominates my work. I paint figuratively—scenes and portraits—in a distinctive style that sits somewhere between cartoon art, Expressionism, and realism. My paintings tell stories: not always explicitly, leaving room for interpretation, and sometimes—to my mind—”overloaded with meaning,” yet always timeless. My work involves an intense engagement with the themes and figures I depict, with a particular focus on women and feminism. Since I often look back at the lives and fates of women over the past 120 years, much of my work can be summed up by the title of an earlier exhibition: “The Good Life – Trial and Error.” Although I need silence while painting, a fitting song is almost always running through my mind, meaning there is a specific song associated with nearly every piece.

Biography

Painting has been a constant part of my life. While I have professional training in the graphic arts industry, I am entirely self-taught when it comes to painting—save for a few workshops (such as at the Hamburg Kunsthalle). I painted with oils as a child, but I couldn’t tolerate the fumes, so I switched to acrylics when I started painting again in 2016. Since 2019, I have regularly exhibited my work in public, including several shows at the BOart gallery in Bad Oldesloe, where I was part of an artist collective. Since the pandemic, I have primarily exhibited at art fairs like “altonale” and at the “Grindelallee” pop-up space run by Hamburg Kreativgesellschaft. You can find a list of exhibitions on my website under /artist.
