SARA RAHANJAM

“I am an Iranian artist whose work is directly rooted in the lived experience of contemporary humanity and the social, cultural, and political challenges that shape it. My practice engages with fundamental issues such as women’s rights, gender and racial discrimination, and the condition of the individual under social pressure. Having been born and raised in Iran, my projects are deeply personal and experiential responses to situations that I, or those around me, have directly lived through.
My perspective is grounded in a dual interpretation of every phenomenon, believing that light and darkness exist in constant and inseparable tension. This duality lies at the core of my work, driving me to explore complex human relationships and conflicts.
My primary inspiration emerges from the confrontation of contemporary individuals with legal and social challenges. Through a symbolic approach, I refer to people and situations whose thoughts and actions have left profound marks on cultural and social transformations.
For me, art is a tool to generate collective awareness and to transform experiences of pain into expressions of resilience, peace, and human connection.
In my work, I seek to create worlds governed by alternative definitions — spaces that invite the audience to reconsider and reimagine the ways in which they perceive reality.”
