It is people who interest me most.
Particularly historical figures, in whose portraits I see stories.
They include vintage racing cyclists, members of the RAF, Italian film characters and deceased writers, etc.
My technique involves fretwork in wood.
They are reliefs comprising several layers – somewhat three-dimensional.
They are then coloured using acrylics and pens. My latest works are very large-scale, measuring 1–2 metres in height.
Against the backdrop of today’s high-tech, screen-dominated world, these unique pieces of woodwork, with their incomparable grain patterns, strike me as an interesting counterpoint with a soul of their own.
This petty-bourgeois jigsaw technique creates a charming twist on the topics.
