My illustration style is best described as classic flat illustration with mixed-media influences and a touch of retro nostalgia. I mainly work digitally in Photoshop, but I love combining it with analogue techniques such as screen printing and Risograph. In the end, I usually mix everything together to create images with texture, warmth, and character.
One of my favorite artists is Brian Cronin, but I’m also inspired by many book cover designers and editorial illustrators. I especially love designing book covers because they challenge me to capture the essence of an entire story in a single image. A cover is the first impression of a book—it gives the story a face before the reader even opens it.
I believe book illustration is something very precious. A single illustration can enhance the mood of a story, almost like a melody in a film, adding emotion without replacing the words. That’s why I love designing and illustrating books: creating visual worlds that support the text, enrich the reading experience, and invite readers into the story.
Biography
I’m a book and book cover designer, illustrator, and lecturer. Most of my work can be found in illustrated books, and I regularly design books and covers for a variety of publishing houses, combining editorial design with illustration.
It’s been a while since my last exhibitions, as I’ve spent the past few years teaching as a lecturer. These days, my illustrations are mostly seen in the books and covers I create. Earlier in my career, I exhibited my work in Cologne, but today I’m happiest seeing it out in the world through the books I design and illustrate.
