BAAM

Strongly influenced by photography, my paintings capture fragments of stories through unexpected perspectives, cropped compositions, and moments that feel discovered rather than staged. Faces, bodies, hands, lipstick, smoke, flowers, kisses, and fleeting gestures recur throughout my work. People dance, kiss, drink, celebrate, and lose themselves in the moment. Working exclusively with acrylic on canvas in a fast wet-on-wet technique, often with just one brush, I seek to preserve the immediacy and energy of the first impression. Many of my paintings resemble snapshots or film stills—direct, intimate, and cinematic. Rather than illustrating a narrative, they invite viewers to complete it themselves, exploring not only the depicted moment but also the fragility of closeness, memory, desire, and atmosphere.

Biography

My name is May Aurin, and I am a painter based in Hamburg, Germany. Having grown up in a family of artists, I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. After more than 30 years working as an Art Director, Designer, and Illustrator, I have dedicated myself entirely to painting for the past four years, working full-time from my studio in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. My last exhibition was a 3-weeks-Solo-Show at Fabrik der Künste, before that I exhibited at THE SPACE, TBD, ALTONALE, HAAM3 and several other spaces.
