BAAM

Matija Resman

In my abstract lithographs, I mostly work with washed lithographic ink, applied with an excess of water. The ink is applied to the stone using a calligraphy brush, a dropper, or straight from the container — then sometimes covered with tissues and left to dry. This creates generated textures through controlled chance. The compositions develop slowly in dialogue with the abstract forms that emerge — not under the constraint of pre-planned sketches. Music flows into the process as an external parameter. The stone’s own properties, such as its surface and shape, are respected and highlighted throughout. The result is less the execution of an idea than a reaction to what the process itself produces.

Biography

I’m Matija Resman – a communication designer (finishing my BA at HAW Hamburg) and creative coder with a focus on experimental approaches to type design and typography. In contrast to this digital practice, I also create abstract forms of art using analogue techniques, such as mixed media painting and lithography. I’ve exhibited a pen-plotted poster at the PRINT IS NOT THAT International Poster Festival, KULTUR&GUT, Hamburg (11–12/2024), and taken part in a number of student exhibitions including DIMINISHED FICTION – AR Popup Exhibition (06/2024). My typographic work has been featured in Slanted Magazine #47 – Digital Tools (04/2026), with another feature coming up in Slanted Magazine – Experimental Type 4.0 (2026).
