Maria del Mar

I love and seek out forms, images and embodiments as points of intersection between
sensual perception, my human identity and other presences.
In short: ‘touch’.
In my world, structural organisation is not the force that ultimately creates what is essential.

I am concerned with the question of what is involved in the creation of a form and what interaction there is between language, thoughts, sensations of time and space, and memory.
For me, structure and essence are a central pair of opposites that do not outweigh each other, but rather determine each other.
I work primarily in and with drawing; For me it is unsurpassed in its immediacy. As a performance artist, I am concerned with similar questions – I see dance and movement as having the greatest transformative potential to soften hardened perspectives and learn to think with the heart.
