My paintings combine surreal and symbolic elements with scenes from everyday life. I am particularly interested in the relationship between humans and nature, creating visual narratives that invite viewers to form their own interpretations. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, I aim to create paintings that convey both tranquility and an underlying sense of mystery through symbolism, color, and composition.
Literature plays a central role in my artistic practice. Many of my paintings are inspired by novels, poetry, and the symbolic language of literature. Rather than illustrating specific stories, I transform literary ideas, emotions, and metaphors into visual narratives that encourage contemplation and multiple readings. I am fascinated by the way both literature and painting can suggest more than they explicitly reveal, leaving space for imagination and personal interpretation. Through this dialogue between image and text, I seek to create works that are both visually engaging and intellectually evocative, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover their own meaning within each painting.
Biography
My name is Luis López. I am a contemporary artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico, currently living and working in Hamburg, Germany. I studied Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico and I am currently pursuing a degree in Comparative Literature at the same university. My academic background reflects my interest in combining visual art,philosophy and literature, three disciplines that strongly influence my creative practice.
In 2021, I was selected to exhibit at the London Art Biennale in the United Kingdom, where one of my paintings was included in the exhibition. Today, my work is held in private collections, and I sell my paintings directly to collectors as well as through the online gallery Artfinder.
Through both my artistic practice and my studies, I continue to explore the relationship between painting, symbolism, and literary narratives.
