Muluna
In this new series, Kristine Alksne revisits a body of work first created twenty years ago in Palermo, returning to Sicily with a renewed gaze. The still life becomes a site of memory and transformation, where the watermelon—muluna in Sicilian—emerges as both: everyday object and sculptural form.
Through this motif, the work connects unconsciously to femininity, embodying a tension between fragility and strength, simplicity and symbolism. Muluna traces the evolution of vision over time: from instinctive gestures to a more deliberate interpretation, while holding on to the poetic charge of the ordinary.
