BAAM

Katrin Stender

I think, art should question the human existance. Me personally, I am concentrating my work on the thesis: “The human longs to sleep.” So my artistic practice unfolds along two parallel trajectories. One is dedicated to the Portrait – exploring the consistance of the human being. The other consists of open, non-narrative painting, wich invite the viewer to imagine the pictorial space a extending beyond the edges of the canvas. In doing this, the non- narrative works raise the question of whether the painting ultimately becomes less an image than a material presence: a cloth, a covering, a blanke, a protective mantle. Central to my conceptual framework is the idea that sleep might represent the fundamental condition of the artistic state. Simply through the loosing fo conscious control. In this exposition I decided to offer some of my all-over- works. Egg tempera is my primary medium.
