Johanna is a Berlin-based oil painter exploring femininity, perception, and impermanence. Since establishing her practice, she has exhibited in group shows and developed a body of work that draws from Old Masters techniques to examine both the male and female gaze on contemporary objects. Working in translucent oil glazes, she creates compositions that appear perfect and real – until they don’t. Frozen figures, roses without stems, glass dissolves into ghostly outlines. In this gap between reality and projection, between being truly seen and forever interpreted, her work asks who controls the image of a woman and who she actually is.
