Joe O’Brien (b. 1993) is an Irish-born, Berlin-based self-taught painter working mainly in acrylic, gouache, and watercolour. His paintings focus on the raw, everyday environments connected to urban nightlife, cluttered kitchens, empty bars, graffiti covered bathrooms, and spaces left behind after long nights out. Working from personal reference photos, O’Brien combines realism with atmosphere to capture moments that feel intimate, chaotic, and familiar. Lighting and detail play an important role in shaping the mood of each scene, reflecting both the social energy and emotional residue often found within shared urban spaces.
