BAAM

When the Party Is Over explores the quiet emotional landscape that emerges once the spectacle has faded. It dwells in the suspended moment when appearances begin to lose their certainty, revealing a longing for connection, belonging, and stability in an increasingly fragile world.

Jana Jacob’s paintings unfold in the intimate aftermath of excess. Inflated objects—oversized shoes, a monumental wine glass, an exaggerated skirt—function as symbols of contemporary desires for beauty, status, and belonging. Their glossy, almost synthetic surfaces promise permanence while exposing their inherent instability. As these objects grow larger than life, the human figures withdraw into moments of quiet vulnerability, navigating the tension between external expectations and inner emotional realities.

Rather than offering a direct critique of consumer culture, Jacob is interested in its emotional residue. Her paintings inhabit the space where spectacle gives way to tenderness, asking why we continue to invest in images of beauty, success, and permanence even as they reveal themselves to be as ephemeral as air—always one puncture away from collapse. Within this fragile balance, intimacy becomes a quiet form of resistance: a place where uncertainty, care, and the desire for genuine connection can still exist.
