Born in 1975 in East Berlin, Jacob Maler experienced German reunification at fourteen and the rise of the European Union soon after. These transitions between systems and identities deeply shape his art. His work explores how spaces and structures connect while remaining distinct.
Threads—both literal and symbolic—run through his paintings and objects. Using wool, strings, and ropes, Maler creates dynamic surfaces where lines twist, curve, and vibrate like energetic pathways. Influenced by Jackson Pollock’s expressive movement, he transforms the canvas into a field of tension and flow. Through color and material contrasts, his works capture moments of ongoing life—frozen yet pulsing with change and interconnection.
