BAAM

Heike Kirsch. Art Waves.

In my artistic practice, the creative process itself takes center stage – with all its explorations, experiments, mistakes, and repetitions – regardless of any specific outcome. Many small decisions regarding materials, tools, and their application enable transitions between different media – from two-dimensional works to their extension into the third dimension. These processes open up a space of experience and insight for me that has become existential.
My artistic practice allows me to be mindful and present in the “here and now,” to feel the shift between control and letting go, and to experience an inner form of freedom. Time becomes visible in the artwork through the traces of the individual steps in the creative process, which can tell very personal stories.
My love for the Baltic Sea has led me to marine conservation, a cause I wish to address and support through my artistic work. I want to facilitate a sensory approach to the necessary measures so that people can build a connection to the Baltic Sea and get involved.

Biography

My artistic practice is based on self-directed learning, continuous development, and an intensive engagement with contemporary art and the art scene in Germany. Since 2021, I am developing an interdisciplinary artistic practice that combines abstract painting, mixed media, watercolor, printmaking, spatial installations, and object art.
Over the past five years, I have participated in 13 group exhibitions and art fairs with selected works. In addition, I have been presenting my work internationally on the online gallery Singulart since 2024.
Another key component of my artistic practice is art education. In workshops, I share my knowledge and practical experience, drawing on my professional training and continuing education. My goal is to make contemporary art accessible and to open up different approaches to artistic processes.
An important milestone in my career to date was the retrospective exhibition and the ART LAB held in downtown Hamburg in March 2026. There, I presented approximately 150 works created over a period of five years. The exhibition offered a comprehensive insight into the development of my artistic language and the breadth of my interdisciplinary approach.
My professional background includes a degree in Contemporary Art History from the University of Hamburg, more than 40 years of experience in analog and digital photography, training as a cultural mediator, and ongoing artistic education with visual artists.
