We, Annegret Fahr and Imma Perello Farre, are two visual artists from Hamburg who have known each other for a long time and have been working on the project “Painting as a Duo” for some time now. Two minds think and engage in dialogue, four hands create… and a painting emerges.
The *Begegnungsautomat* (Encounter Machine)—created for an art project at Hamburg’s Großneumarkt in 2006—was our first collaborative work.
Our current artistic collaboration takes the form of painting together.
Some paintings emerge very organically and effortlessly. Others, however, go through numerous layers and dead ends, yet ultimately tell a story precisely because of those traces.
It is often fascinating to discover unexpected solutions—approaches one would never arrive at alone.
The painting process is complete when the sum of perception, experience, emotion, and memory amounts to more than any single element, and the final result is an image that speaks a universal language.
