The ocean is my sanctuary, holding both calm and untamed power. My photographs capture this duality, using abstraction to dissolve shapes and forms, leaving space for individual perception. Because each fleeting moment is unique, no image can ever be repeated. In the series Fallen Sky, this raw force is traditionally black-and-white. However, the additional special edition Powder Pink replaces black with soft pink. The powerful waves instantly shift from heavy and distant to light, open, and hopeful. While the patterns remain unchanged, their meaning transforms, proving that a shift in how we see can fundamentally alter our reality.
Emmy Zimmermann is a photographer whose work explores the abstract forms of waves. For her, the sea is both calming and energizing. In her black-and-white series, she transforms water’s movement into minimal, rhythmic compositions that hover between stillness and dynamism. In an other series, Powder Pink, black is replaced with pink, creating equally striking but entirely different works. Her precise visual language is informed by her background in commercial photography and directing. Emmy Zimmermann lives and works between Berlin and the Canary Islands, capturing the power of the moment through clarity, rhythm, and subtle abstraction.
