Dorota Mierzwa

This series is made of fragments of my grandmother’s apartment. For a long time I felt nothing for the wallpaper, the lace curtains, the clutter that felt dated and unglamorous. Painting it now is a way of sitting with that feeling and letting it soften. The memories kept coming back, more with every brushstroke. I realized the distance I once set is now giving way to tenderness.

Dorota is a Polish-born artist based in Berlin, where she has lived for the past five years. It was in Berlin that she rediscovered her passion for painting and began developing her practice, learning from local artists.
She works primarily in oil, creating quiet scenes that draw on memory. Through warm tones and pattern, her paintings revisit familiar moments and reflect a growing appreciation for things once overlooked or even resented.
