Carsten Wagner

My artistic practice explores the boundaries between surface, texture, and physical form through printmaking, sculpture, and canvas works. I am deeply fascinated by structural textures and organic geometry, capturing the friction between material resistance and precise execution. Whether applying photopolymer techniques to unconventional backings, etching intricate fractal structures into metal plates, or casting heavy, architectural forms in plaster and stone, my work investigates spatial presence. Each piece is a tactile record of a process, where layers of ink and physical mass converge to transform abstract concepts into a powerful, living dialogue between material, current state, and space.

Born in 1978 and based in Hamburg, Carsten Wagner’s practice evolved from graphic-print beginnings into a multidisciplinary exploration of sculpture and large-scale painting. Since 2005, he has exhibited internationally in New York, London, Spain, and Chile. His development centers on a shifting materiality, moving from traditional relief techniques to raw concrete forms and complex, narrative canvases.
