Alexandra Pikunova

I explore the relationship between people and architecture – not from the perspective of architects, but of everyday individuals who live in or pass by. My focus is in how architecture shapes social behavior and how, in return, people assign personal and cultural meaning to buildings or their parts. Cyanotype is my main medium because it naturally helps to reflect the ideas of memory and time, which are inextricably linked to architecture as a silent witness to human presence, absence, and change.

Alexandra Pikunova (b. 1981, USSR) came to art through a path of discovery and transformation. Initially trained as an engineer, she worked in the technical field for many years before turning to creative practice at 34. After studying art and design, she focused on product design, creating objects inspired by Soviet modernist architecture using concrete.
In 2022, she relocated to Munich, where a personal turning point led her to shift toward fine art. Her current practice explores the relationship between people and architecture, combining her background in design with experimental approaches.
