In recent years, my focus has been on ink drawings, which were exhibited at HAAM#3 last year (resulting in two sales). The fascinating thing about working with Chinese ink is that the medium allows for no corrections — the stroke and the composition must be right on the first attempt.
The drawing process is not about depicting what I see; my gaze is directed inward rather than outward. Yet, elements of the world around me still emerge in my drawings. I search for forms that are actually unfamiliar to me. Sometimes, the images simply flow out of me, uncontrolled — unexpected things happen. These can be the best moments.
The image emerges from experiences and memories. And yet, the result can still surprise me. Drawing is a craft — and sometimes, you experience a moment of brilliance.
