BAAM

My work is rooted in observation but develops through transformation. Each painting begins with a simple sketch based on a photograph, providing only a loose point of departure. From there, I work intuitively, building layers of drawing ink, wax, oil and soft pastels until the original reference gradually dissolves into an autonomous composition.
I am interested in the space between recognition and abstraction, where landscapes and organic forms become vehicles for exploring rhythm, color and visual relationships. Rather than representing a particular place, my paintings investigate how perception changes through memory, movement and the act of painting itself.
For me, painting is a process of discovery rather than illustration. Each work evolves through a dialogue between intention and chance, allowing unexpected structures and connections to emerge. The finished image invites viewers to navigate between familiarity and ambiguity, creating their own associations instead of arriving at a single fixed interpretation.

Biography

I am a Hamburg-based artist with a background in graphic design and visual communication. For more than two decades, I have worked professionally across graphic design, film post-production and motion design, experiences that continue to shape my visual language through a strong awareness of composition, rhythm and colour.
Although painting has always accompanied my creative life, it has become the central focus of my artistic practice over the past year. Working regularly in the studio, I create layered works on paper and canvas using drawing ink together with wax, oil and soft pastels. Beginning from observations of landscape, my paintings gradually move away from representation, evolving into abstract compositions shaped by material, process and intuitive decision-making.
