BAAM

This series, “Paintings of Mourning,” explores the internal landscape of loss through abstract, graphical constructions. Using a cube motif that acts as both a coffin and a gateway for the soul, I use acrylics and traditional pigments with nikawa glue to portray the silent continuity between what disappears and what remains for those who live on.

Born in Okayama, Ai Moliya is a Berlin-based artist with a background in painting and graphic design from Kobe and Tokyo. Since 2017, she has maintained two distinct practices: “Paintings of Mourning” and “Kintsugi of Rebirth.” While her abstract paintings navigate the internal landscape of loss through graphical constructions, her Kintsugi work utilizes traditional Japanese techniques to restore broken ceramics into new aesthetic “scenery.” Through these separate yet related approaches, she portrays the silent continuity between what disappears and what remains, honoring the fragile and the transformed.
