Monika Manhart

I create figurative ceramics inspired by the small absurdities, feelings, and observations of everyday life. Through simplification, humor, and playfulness, I give ordinary moments and people presence and importance. My works often move between sculpture, object, and use, turning fleeting thoughts into tangible forms. I work intuitively and embrace irregularities like dents, asymmetries, and visible brushstrokes as traces of my process. My practice is deeply rooted in my curiosity and the joy of making, where experimentation becomes a tool for storytelling and everyday art.

Self-taught ceramic artist Monika Manhart, born in 1982, lives and works in Berlin. She found ceramic art at the beginning of 2022. Working under her artistic name moniy, she quickly developed a distinctive visual language that blends humor, curiosity, and craftsmanship. Her handbuilt, mostly stoneware pieces combine traditional techniques with playful, quirky forms. Inspired by everyday observations and thoughts, her works often explore subtle emotional narratives through shape and color. Pieces from her lighthead series have been shown in group exhibitions in Berlin and New York.
