Monika Kalinowska paints the body as a site of pressure — not beauty for its own sake, but the body under conditions: watched, aged, obscured, escaping, remembered. Her recurring subjects are women simply being — full agents, not symbols or narrative devices. The work is grounded in feminist theory, shaped by a Polish Catholic upbringing, over a decade in Berlin, and a prior practice in textiles. Kalinowska is AuDHD, and the hyperfocus and obsessive return to the same formal problems are not obstacles to painting but its engine. She stays with a subject until it gives something up.
