My own stream of photographs and from friends’ online feeds, are my starting point. I then let the computer glitch the image by inserting readable phrases taken from the news media – particularly falsehoods, lies and text based SPAM – into the code of the file. These works were not only painted but directly affected by the untruths that incessantly flood our senses.
Since 2020 my focus has shifted to the deep psychological impact on individuals affected by the place they inhabit, the things they consume and the digital media that influences them. Visualizing the effects and relation of people’s ‘identity’ with their physical surroundings.
When documenting social situations, I let the digital camera produce errors. I then compose these fragmented images around static tables. In this time of chaos, there can be nothing more necessary – more defiant – than showing life lived.
